About Rob
Rob has designed irrigation systems since 1998. Over more than 25 years he has produced irrigation designs for landscape architects, civil engineers, general contractors, irrigation contractors, school districts, university grounds departments and developers, on projects ranging from greenway trails and hospitals to stadiums and airports.
Rob's approach starts with the water supply. On every project he checks that the source is sized for the system, that run times fit inside local watering windows, and that the design meets local watering codes and project requirements such as LEED and SITES. His goal is the most water-efficient system that still gives the client exactly what they need.
His design work covers the full project cycle: schematic design, design development, permit drawings, construction documents, specifications, cost estimates, record drawings and construction administration, including site visits to confirm that installation follows the specification.
On Irrigation Calculators
Rob writes and is responsible for the site's system design calculators: sprinklers (precipitation rates, head spacing, zones, run times and audits), irrigation hydraulics (pipe sizing, friction loss, velocity, pressure and supply flow), drip irrigation (emitters, zone flow, tubing layout, pressure and filtration) and garden and trees (beds, containers, trees, shrubs, greywater and rainwater).
He checks each tool's method, formulas and assumptions against the same standards he designs to, so that results hold up for both homeowners and professionals. See our methodology and editorial policy.
